Which is apparently a 50% increase since the 1990s. Over 420 million children live in areas, that are affected by armed conflict. Working at the Dallaire Institute has been a wonderful opportunity to tie all of those elements together and to really understand how we can think about children, peace, and security in a much different way. I have experience in working in Africa, as well as in conflict mediation, and at the United Nations through the United Nations Children’s Fund, which was my first professional job coming out of my studies. In terms of my work, I’ve been working as the Executive Director for the last 12 years so it’s been a huge part of who I am and the building of it – from what was originally the Roméo Dallaire Child Soldiers Initiative – has been something that has been an incredibly proud moment for me. We are based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, on the Dalhousie University Campus. I am the Executive Director of what is currently known as the Dallaire Institute for Children Peace and Security.
